Preliminary notice only has been received.
Applicant's name: Iglesia De Jesuscristo Location: 12200 S. W. 56 ST. The applicant
is requesting a zone change from interim
district to one acre estate district and a
special exception to permit a previously
approved church to expand onto additional
property to the west.
The original hearing on this church was
on April 3, 2004 in front of Community
Council 11. The church claimed 50% of
Horse Country supported the expansion of
the church. The list they turned in did not
include any residents of Horse Country and
the 2 people who did say they lived in Horse
Country and supported the expansion of the
church were not property owners but worked
in Horse Country. The Council voted 4 to 3 in
favor of the church.
Hearing will be held at Arvida Middle
School, 10900 SW 127 Ave. Miami, Fl.
33186. Date to be announced.
Dade County Planning direcxtor Diane
O’quinn filed an appeal of this ruling
directly to the county commission on the
basis of inconsistency with the Master
Plan. A chaurch must show it is needed
and used by the neighborhood surrounding
it.
A new hearing was set for October,
2004. The church choose to “withdraw
without prejudice.”
They are now coming back to try
again to expand their facilities. No date
has been set for hearing.
This item is on the agenda for discussion
at the December 11th meeting of the
BKHA.
ARCHIMEDEAN CHARTER SCHOOL
This property is located at 12425 SW
Sunset Drive and consists of 12 acres.
They have filed two applications to
expand an existing charter school onto
adjacent acreage owned by the school.
They want to increase student body to
1300, adding grades 9-12.
Archimedean’s 2nd request is to add
grades 9 and 10.
This charter school is within the Horse
Country boundaries and has bought up
ranches around it to expand the school.
Several years ago it was sold and went
from Holy Cross Academy to Archimedean
Charter School. They now own 12 acres
and their requests for expansion seem to
never end.
There is no date set for their hearing as
yet.
